Experience #10

Friendships in D Minor

This week marks a milestone for The Kitchen Counter Sessions as we celebrate our 10th Experience. It's a momentous occasion, and what better way to commemorate it than by gathering together the very people who started it all? With a shared love for food and music, we're coming together to indulge in some of our favourite food and music.

Our menu is a culinary journey through the vibrant flavours of Asia, starting with tantalising appetisers that set the stage for the feast to come. Thai larb moo, a fragrant minced pork salad bursting with fresh herbs and spices, is paired with a creamy and aromatic tom kha gai soup. For the main course, we're serving up a Thai-inspired beef salad, featuring tender slices of marinated beef tossed with crisp vegetables and a tangy dressing that dances on the palate. And to cap off our celebratory meal, we're treating ourselves to a decadent lemongrass and coconut panna cotta – a silky-smooth dessert made with coconut milk flavoured with lime leaves and lemongrass.

But the celebration doesn't end with the food – our DJ Mix is a carefully curated selection of fantastic edits and reworks of music from the 80s and 90s, guaranteed to get you grooving from the first beat. With contributions from some exciting DJs in the scene, it's a musical journey that promises to transport you to head-bobbing territory the moment it starts.

So join us as we raise a glass to 10 incredible Experiences of The Kitchen Counter Sessions, filled with delicious food, fantastic music, and cherished memories. Here's to many more to come!

Wine Selection

The wine pairing was a fascinating blend of anticipation and revelation. Initially, the Santa Ana Reserve Malbec 2021 seemed an intuitive choice. Its full-bodied character promised to complement the grilled beef, while its dark fruit undertones hinted at harmony with the dressing's sweetness. Initially, we were worried about the potential clash of oak notes and tannins with all the citrus in the dressing.

However, the first sip unveiled a surprisingly smooth and approachable Malbec, with subtle oak and well-balanced tannins allowing the fruitiness to shine without overwhelming sweetness. The unexpected delight came with the pairing with the salad, where the wine's fruitiness intertwined harmoniously with the dressing's tamarind and palm sugar, creating a balanced sweetness. Additionally, the wine's earthy tones resonated with the salad's galangal and garlic, enhancing complexity. Even the mild chilli heat complemented the wine's peppery spice, leaving a lingering warmth on the finish.

While not a conventional match, the experience celebrated the joy of experimentation. The Santa Ana Reserve Malbec 2021 surprised us and proved that unconventional pairings can lead to delightful discoveries. Cheers to that!
